1. About these terms

These terms of use (“terms”) set out how you may use the app KanKey (“the app”), provided by [OPERATOR NAME] (“we”). By using the app you agree to these terms.

2. The 漢検 exam

The app is an unofficial study aid. It is not made or endorsed by the Japan Kanji Aptitude Testing Foundation (公益財団法人日本漢字能力検定協会). 漢検 and 漢字検定 are its registered trademarks.

We wrote the questions, sentences and explanations ourselves. Using the app does not guarantee that you pass the exam.

3. Accounts

You can use the app without an account. To sync, you create one with Apple, Google or a code sent to your email.

Keep your account to yourself, and look after the devices and the email address you sign in with.

You can delete your account at any time in Settings.

4. Plus

Plus is a paid subscription that renews every month. The price is based on €1.99 a month; the App Store and Google Play show the amount for your country.

The stores handle buying, payment, renewal and cancellation, and their terms apply too. Plus renews automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends. You can cancel at any time in your store’s subscription settings.

Refunds follow the store’s rules.

After you cancel, Plus keeps working to the end of the period you paid for. When Plus ends, nothing you have studied is deleted.

5. What you may not do

Please don’t:

• access the app or our servers without permission, or disrupt them

• take apart or modify the app, except where the law allows it

• copy the questions or explanations in bulk to share or sell them

• pretend to be someone else, or send spam through mistake reports

6. Who owns what

We own the app’s questions, sentences, explanations and design. You are welcome to use them for your own study.

Third-party data such as dictionaries, stroke order and fonts is used under the licenses listed in Credits & licenses.

7. Mistakes

Questions and dictionary data can contain mistakes. If you find one, tap the report button on the question or kanji page.

8. Liability

[LIABILITY CLAUSE: needs legal review] We work to keep the app correct and working, but can’t promise it is free of every mistake or fault. As far as the law allows, we are not liable for loss caused by using the app, except where we acted on purpose or with gross negligence.

9. Changes to the app

We may change or end features. If we end the sync service, we will tell you in the app at least [NOTICE PERIOD] before. The progress on your phone stays usable.

10. Changes to these terms

If we change these terms, we will tell you in the app before the change takes effect.

11. Law and courts
